PPO insurance or “Preferred Provider Organization” plans, are one of the most popular types of plans in the Individual and Family market.  PPO Insurance is a type of health insurance plan which gives members a list of covered hospitals, doctors, and specialists along with a chance to see doctors or specialists outside of the network. PPO insurance allow you to visit whatever in-network physician or healthcare provider you wish without first requiring a referral from a primary care physician.

PPO insurance members also have the flexibility to visit doctors listed by the PPO or of their own choosing without needing any type of referral.  PPOs are networks of doctors and medical facilities, which also allow you the flexibility to seek medical care elsewhere. Self employed health insurance rates do tend to be a little higher than those you would find in a group insurance setting. Self employed health insurance can be purchased in the individual health insurance market. If you are self employed then you are going to be searching for an individual plan and they can be more costly than if you have insurance with a group.
